I congratulate each and everyone on the occasion of 65th Independence Day celebration. We have come a long way. This is high time to measure the word Independence as 65 years are a good enough time to see the changes. Considering my own society, I can see an average life span of a person to be around 65 years. This gives me the liberty to put my point here that a generation’s effort can be seen in effect. Also, we, the next generation, have to take the learning from past and put our constructive effort towards a suitable growth path to be distinctly ahead in all fronts internationally by being in situ with the trends worldwide.
What convinces me for Indian being independent is its own government, a government of the people, for the people and by the people. I find, the oppositions at its best to oppose the one and every this ruling government comes up with. As a common man, I too hear that an instance of corruption by 1 party is highlighted to overcome the other of their own. A full coverage of debates, interviews and report of every second of such events are widely available over all media. The question that comes to my mind is how it going to benefit us, a common man? Is the merely discussion over Kashmir issue going to do any help to the purpose for which the soldiers were killed at Kashmir, or the one got killed in Mumbai Blast? I voice, it is the need of the hour to sit and think by all Indian to understand where it went wrong and what need to be done to eradicate the root cause.
Towards the resolution, I would like to put some points here. What is a country, my answer would be me, you and person beside you is India. Me, you and person beside you makes the community. This is very well accepted by many developed countries. The community level approach on each front will not just make one community to understand their responsibility and active participation towards the growth but also induces the same in the neighbouring community. Local newspapers must be read. This was already there within us from the root but somehow in the race of being global, we are violating the basic rules of success. Somehow, I feel it’s time we make study of CIVICS obsolete in Indian education system as it’s not in use or make its pass percentage to 90% so that it gets reflected in society.
We are self sufficient in food production and export food too. Reports say we can cloth all Indian with our own production of cloth. Felt great to read reports, but before I could read the conclusion part of the report, on a red signal I found a half clothed boy selling cloth made Indian Flag just to make a meal of night. Why a farmer in Maharashtra find committing suicide is the only way to get out of the debt and poverty. Have we given a thought of pulling water from a flooded area to a drought area? The country is producing the maximum number of engineers in the world but the school teachers who educate them are paid the least. If the teachers are not self sufficient and need to go for other means, is India self sufficient?
We are trying to befriend with many countries. We have a great man power. It’s great to find Indians all over the world winning name in their respective domain. I know, it is the only country where elected President was Muslim, PM is Sikh in Hindu dominated country. But when someone asked my friend Shyam, who is well educated, if the maid working in his house is Christian or Muslim, he just replied saying “Its common sense, she is Hindu”. I know we can fill many one from us in place of Shyam and many such scenario can we well experienced. Are we really promoting impartiality? Is this the need of the time? Caste system is still the reality is villages. Gender inequalities are still rooted in the core of our society. Daily quotas and anti-quota issue can be felt and experienced. Are these problems solved in 65 years of Indian Independence? Answer is default, a big NO.
Today be it 15th August or 26th January, it’s just a holiday for government employees and for private it’s a general working day. People will disagree, but I know my friends working for US clients got office on 15th August. I have asked several questions in this letter of mine (rather say a common Indian) but who is there to answer? Should not we expect answers from each one of us? Let’s be brave and practical. We can definitely propose resolution to avoid the questions existence. It is the time for each one of us to contribute in our own way, towards making the India move up not just in reports but in reality. Let’s try to think the child clothed before we think our vehicle should get a big Tiranga fastened just to show off. Let’s not change the lane, before we complain the deadlock traffic. Let’s pay the IT return before we complain about bad road or country infrastructure.
Where I can see the potential is “youth population” who are hungry for change. Youth power has proved its effect in US and we are lucky to have about 50 percent of the voters below age of 35. What a change capable strength we have! I can say with confidence, we can’t just be change driven; Change can be driven by us. I appeal all to help India become truly Independent.
